Star struck!

21 August 2018

Following the success of our initiative to donate 10% of all our will writing fees in 2016/2017 to the Jersey Branch of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, we were delighted to be notified by the charity that given the sums raised we would be able to name our own guide dog.  In 2017 we noted that Springfield School had received a visit from the charity to help educate the children about the important work a guide dog performs and we thought it would be a lovely idea for the children to pick the winning name for our guide dog.  The firm ran a competition with our clients and intermediaries to name our guide dog and the top five names were chosen by the partners and provided to the school so that they could pick the winning entry.  The winning name chosen by the children was ‘Star’ due to the fact that stars can be used for navigation, just like guide dogs.

Star is now almost 8 months old and has been placed in Jersey with her puppy trainers Richard and Yvonne Pascoe.  She is getting on great.

Star visited the office last week giving the team an excellent opportunity to meet her in person, she is just adorable.  The visit also provided Star with an opportunity to expand her training by attending at the office.  We look forward to Star returning to the office later in the year.

This year we are continuing our relationship with the Jersey Branch of the Guide Dog for the Blind Association by part sponsoring their golf tournament which is due to be held at the Royal Jersey on 5 September.  We are proud to be connected with the charity and to help raise further awareness of the important role a guide dog performs, namely, offering companionship and granting freedom of movement and independence for a blind or partially sighted person.

Ken Syvret the chairman of the charity commented “The Jersey Branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind has welcomed the generous sponsorship which Le Gallais & Luce has provided towards the training of a Guide Dog.   It has been a pleasure working with Marianne Shaw and the partners and staff who have all embraced the project. The wonderful idea of donating a proportion of fees for the drawing up of Wills for their clients not only raises immediate funds for the work of Guide Dogs but also brings to the attention of clients the benefits to a blind or visually disabled person of the ownership of a Guide Dog. We are so grateful.”
