Le Gallais & Luce is proud to announce its charitable giving commitments for 2026, reaffirming the firm’s dedication to supporting the communities it serves through a programme of targeted donations and initiatives that reflect its core values of education, environmental responsibility and community wellbeing.

New Charity Partners

This year, Le Gallais & Luce is delighted to welcome three new organisations to its giving programme. The Sophie Reid Neurological Association, Friends of Jersey Oncology, and the Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) will each receive a share of £5,000 from the LGL Charity Fund, enabling them to continue their vital work across the Island.

Supporting Education

As part of its ongoing commitment to education, the firm also donated £250 to Beaulieu Convent School to support their participation in the STEM Racing UK event. Formerly known as F1 in Schools, this national competition challenged students to design, build and race miniature Formula 1 cars while developing skills in engineering, project management, marketing and sponsorship.

Protecting Jersey’s Environment

In a practical demonstration of its environmental commitment, Le Gallais & Luce has contributed 800 Asian Hornet trap tags to the Jersey Asian Hornet Group, sponsoring their spring queen trapping programme. Asian hornets pose a significant threat to Jersey’s native insects, butterflies and invertebrates, disrupting the Island’s natural balance and reducing food sources for birds and wider wildlife. The firm is pleased to play its part in protecting Jersey’s natural environment.

Community Care

Le Gallais & Luce has also made a donation to Citizens Advice Jersey to help fund the annual supply of biscuits provided to those seeking support. It’s a small but meaningful gesture of comfort for people at what can be a difficult time.

The firm also continues its ongoing support of the Brightly charity Christmas appeal, a cause close to the hearts of the team, which works to make Christmas special for children and young people living in residential care, care leavers and their children across Jersey.

“These commitments reflect who we are as a firm,” said Matt Godden, Partner. “We are deeply rooted in this community and we take our responsibility to give back seriously, whether that is through supporting healthcare charities, encouraging the next generation, or protecting the natural environment we all share.”

This week, our very own Matthew Godden handed over 800 Asian Hornet trap tags to Adam Dallas-Chapman from the Jersey Asian Hornet Group, as part of our sponsorship of their spring queen trapping programme.

Why is this programme so important?

Asian hornets are aggressive hunters of honeybees. Even a handful hovering outside a hive can devastate a colony. And when bee populations suffer, the effects ripple right through our ecosystem as they are essential pollinators for local crops and plants.

It’s not just bees at risk either. Asian hornets prey on native insects, butterflies and invertebrates, disrupting Jersey’s natural balance and reducing food sources for birds and other wildlife.

That’s why catching queens early in spring is so critical. Once a nest is established, it can be protected by over 500 worker hornets making removal dangerous and requiring specialist teams. By targeting queens before they build, each trap could prevent hundreds of hornets from ever taking hold.

We’re proud to play our small part in protecting Jersey’s precious wildlife and environment.

Find out more about the incredible work of the Jersey Asian Hornet Group on their Facebook page

Our annual Charity Golf Day once again brought together an incredible mix of colleagues, clients, and friends — all united behind two causes that sit close to our hearts: MacMillan Cancer Support Jersey and the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

This year’s event had everything we hoped for: perfect weather, a full course, brilliant team spirit, and plenty of laughter drifting across Les Mielles throughout the day. From the first tee-off to the final putt, the atmosphere was full of energy and generosity, setting the tone for something truly memorable.

As always, the day wouldn’t have been complete without the fantastic spread from Beresford Street Kitchen (BSK). Their freshly prepared food kept everyone fuelled between holes, and it was wonderful to showcase a local social enterprise that continues to make such a positive impact in our community.

Competition across the course was tight — with some spectacular shots, a few near-misses, and more than a couple of surprise performances. Our prize winners walked away with a great selection of rewards, ranging from golf gear and vouchers to experience prizes kindly donated by local sponsors. The friendly rivalry added to the fun, and it was brilliant to see so many teams pushing each other right to the end.

But the real highlight of the day? The generosity shown by everyone involved. Thanks to raffle ticket sales, donations, sponsor support, and the efforts of all our players, we raised an incredible total for MacMillan Jersey and CAB — funding that will go directly toward providing essential support services for individuals and families across the island.

A heartfelt thank-you to every participant, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who helped make the day such a success. This event is always a reminder of the power of community, and we’re proud to continue championing local charities who make a difference every single day.

We’re already looking forward to next year. Until then, thank you for standing with us — both on and off the course.

Archie Greier: Building Momentum on the Baize

It’s been a standout few months for young Jersey talent Archie Greier, and his snooker journey has taken on a whole new rhythm lately — one built on early mornings, cross-channel travel, big-room practice sessions, and the kind of steady progress that quietly turns promise into expectation.

Archie’s commitment has been impossible to miss. From the 4:30am alarms to make flights off the island, to drifting asleep on trains while snow falls outside, he’s been putting in the miles and the hours to compete against some of the UK’s strongest junior players. A recent trip to the Crucible Snooker Club in Reading summed it up perfectly: arriving early, walking into a room buzzing with camera crews, and settling into practice just metres away from icons like Jimmy White, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty — a charged atmosphere that would inspire any young cueist.

Across events this season — including his run in the Cuestars competitions — Archie has shown a real knack for resilience. Even when the kickstart snapped off his bike heading into the Jersey 2-Day (because of course life loves a curveball), he bounced back with a brilliant Day 2 ride that pulled him onto the podium. That determination reflects the same mindset he brings to the table: steady, measured, and always looking for the next opening.

What’s exciting is how naturally his confidence seems to be growing. Each trip, each match, each practice session in unfamiliar venues has pushed him a little further. And every update we’ve had — from long training days to behind-the-scenes glimpses — shows a young athlete learning to thrive under pressure while still loving the game.

As we head into the next run of tournaments, Archie’s trajectory feels electric. He’s finding his rhythm, building on hard-earned experience, and proving that Jersey’s next generation of snooker talent is more than ready to make its mark.

More updates soon — there’s plenty still to come from him.
